Sidónio Alfredo Ferreira Barata is the Head of the Legal Department and Company Secretary of Access Bank Mozambique, with nearly 20 years of experience in Banking. Lawyer with extensive experience in the Legal and Compliance area in banking institutions, he served as Head of the Legal and Compliance Department and served as Executive Management and Company Secretary (as a member of the executive committee) at BancABC Mozambique, where he led the legal team, ensuring the conduct of litigation, formalizing contracts, guarantees, providing legal advice to the Bank in the various departments. He also worked at Standard Bank Mozambique, performing functions in several areas, including Corporate Banking, Credit (unit head of Collateral section) and finally in the Legal Department, as Senior Legal Manager for Transactional Banking. He has accumulated extensive experience in Risk Management, Litigation, both civil and labour, contract preparation, international contracting, Corporate Governance, and relationships with national and international Law firms.
Graduated in Law from the Instituto Superior de Ciências e Tecnologias de Moçambique, Sidónio Barata is currently pursuing a Master´s in International Law and Human Rights at the University of Cumbria in the United Kingdom. Sidónio complements his experience with several courses on Corporate Governance, Compliance and Risk Management, including merit certifications and participation in international conferences. He has been an accredited member of the Mozambican Bar Association since 2014, a member of the Compliance Institute of South Africa, and a speaker and panellist in various forums.
