Head of Retail Banking

Josephine Eva Arthur is a dynamic and results-oriented executive in the retail banking sector, with over 19 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry. Her career encompasses a wide range of expertise, including retail banking, digital financial services, SME banking, product design, and strategic partnership management. Currently, she serves as the Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank in Mozambique, where she is steering the division in alignment with the bank’s strategic goals.

Josephine's journey with Access Bank began in 2013 when she joined Access Bank Ghana Plc. Over the years, she has progressed through the organisation, demonstrating a practical and effective leadership style that has enabled her to build and nurture high-performing teams. As a passionate advocate for financial inclusion and gender empowerment, she has made significant contributions to policy development and strategic partnerships by serving on technical committees across African markets, which are dedicated to advancing initiatives for women, youth, and MSMEs. She played a pivotal role in the rollout of the ‘W’ Initiative in Ghana, an effort that received both local and international recognition for Access Bank.

She earned her degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Cape Coast and holds a Commonwealth Executive MBA from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She has further enhanced her expertise through Executive Management Education at both the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and INSEAD. Her qualifications are complemented by a variety of leadership training programs and certifications in Credit Analysis and Management, Risk Analysis and Management, Treasury Risk Management, Marketing, Customer Service Management, and Organisational Operations Management.

Her focus on customer-centric solutions is evident through her consistent delivery of outstanding results, achieved by developing and executing innovative sales and marketing strategies that consistently exceed organisational objectives while maintaining the highest standards of client satisfaction.

 

Chiwetalu Obikwelu is the Managing Director of Access Bank Mozambique. A seasoned banking executive with over 20 years of experience, his career is distinguished by expertise in business development, relationship management and credit structuring, holding senior positions in prominent African banks. In Mozambique, he has driven strategic growth and elevated Access Bank’s brand visibility within the local market. Previously, he was responsible for the creation and development of the Corporate Banking division at Access Bank South Africa. In Nigeria, he led the Oil & Gas Services sector for Access Bank and, at Diamond Bank, managed relationships in the Energy and Manufacturing sectors, with a focus on structured finance and financial advisory. 


Holding a degree in Estate Management from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Chiwetalu Obikwelu also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Bangor University in the United Kingdom. He has participated in prestigious executive programmes, including ‘Leading Global Businesses’ at Harvard Business School and the leadership programme at MIT Sloan. He is a certified member of the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. The solid academic foundation complements his leadership and strategic execution skills in the African banking sector, enabling him to drive growth and innovation across the markets in which he operates.
