Egildo Massuanganhe

Interim, Head of Treasury

Mr. Egildo Massuanganhe is a seasoned banker with over 15 years of distinguished experience in the financial sector. He currently serves as the Head of Asset and Liability Management, Treasury at Access Bank Mozambique, where he has been a key contributor for more than seven years. 

In addition to his executive role, he is a member of the Investment Advisory Board for Mozambique’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, providing strategic insights into national investment initiative. Throughout his career, Mr. Massuanganhe has held pivotal roles at leading financial institutions, including Barclays Bank Mozambique and the African Banking Corporation (ABC), with a specialization in Treasury and Global Markets. 

His professional journey has encompassed a wide range of responsibilities, including Economist, Trader, Asset & Liability Manager, Head of Balance Sheet Management, Head of Treasury and Global Markets, and currently, Head of Treasury at Access Bank Mozambique. 

Academically, he holds advanced qualifications in Economics, with degrees earned in Zimbabwe and South Africa, including both a Master’s and an Honors degree. He also holds the ACI Financial Markets certification, underscoring his expertise in global financial standards.

Before entering the banking industry, Mr. Massuanganhe worked as a consultant and economist and lectured in Economics and Management at several Mozambican universities, including São Tomas, ISCTEM, and ISPU. He started his role as Interim head of Treasury at Access Bank Mozambique in 2023.

Chiwetalu Obikwelu is the Managing Director of Access Bank Mozambique. A seasoned banking executive with over 20 years of experience, his career is distinguished by expertise in business development, relationship management and credit structuring, holding senior positions in prominent African banks. In Mozambique, he has driven strategic growth and elevated Access Bank’s brand visibility within the local market. Previously, he was responsible for the creation and development of the Corporate Banking division at Access Bank South Africa. In Nigeria, he led the Oil & Gas Services sector for Access Bank and, at Diamond Bank, managed relationships in the Energy and Manufacturing sectors, with a focus on structured finance and financial advisory. 


Holding a degree in Estate Management from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Chiwetalu Obikwelu also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Bangor University in the United Kingdom. He has participated in prestigious executive programmes, including ‘Leading Global Businesses’ at Harvard Business School and the leadership programme at MIT Sloan. He is a certified member of the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. The solid academic foundation complements his leadership and strategic execution skills in the African banking sector, enabling him to drive growth and innovation across the markets in which he operates.
